Begin with the installation boundary
An automated sorter connects structure, power, controls, conveyors, scanning, guarding and the building. A useful installation scope names who owns each interface and which drawing controls the work.
Record exclusions as carefully as inclusions. Unowned cable routes, support steel or access platforms commonly become late project problems.
Confirm site readiness
The installation sequence depends on the floor, clear height, delivery route, temporary storage and safe access. Survey these conditions against the latest approved layout rather than a tender-stage drawing.
- Floor condition, datums and fixing constraints
- Delivery openings, lifting routes and laydown areas
- Temporary power, lighting and welfare
- Access separation from live operations
Plan by interfaces, not isolated trades
Mechanical and electrical work should follow the same system sequence. Supports must be ready for equipment, cable containment must align with devices, and guarding must leave service access.
Hold short interface reviews before closing ceilings, platforms or difficult-to-reach sections.
Connect installation to commissioning
Define mechanical-completion checks, energisation conditions, I/O responsibility, representative test material and open-item ownership before start-up. The handover record should show what is complete and what remains outside the installation scope.
